On Monday, Sean had surgery to take his tonsils and adenoids out. He has been sick on and off with strep throat since November, and he has been on antibiotics four times...ugh! It is like he just gets over one bout, and within a week or two he is spiking a fever again.
It was a tough decision, but we were assured that this surgery at his age is perfect. He will recover quickly, etc. Yesterday, as we were loading into the car (van), Graham looks at me and says, "So, are you calling or am I to cancel this surgery?" We were both nervous wrecks and going on no sleep!
Everything went fine. He thought it was cool to wear his PJs to the hospital, and he found all the instruments pretty fun to touch. He was given some meds to make him sleepy before they took him away, which was great. We were so worried that he'd be scared. We were also lucky to have Molly and my friend, Mandy, helping him, too. They both work in surgery, so they were able to play with him and take him back when it was his turn. Phew! Waking up was scary for him when he couldn't find us, but they were able to bring him to us pretty quick and get the medicine going to help ease his pain.
Now, we are trying to keep him "low key." Hmmm. Trying to keep a 3 year old resting on the couch for a couple days is easier said than done! I am glad the meds are working so well that he feels up to playing, but I worry about him hurting himself! We have been really lucky through this whole experience.
